JOG Camapaign 2017

JOG Camapaign 2017

JOG is the Junior Offshore Group and the club organises races mainly starting from Cowes. It is a very sociable set up and there are often sponsored parties after the race, nothing flash but a good social scene and some seriously good racing sailors.
Here is our programme for JOG racing with Paul Love-Williams and Paul Jackson skippering.
Wild Spirit is a fast cruiser; we pick up some silverware most years but we are not an all-out racing yacht. We are ‘Coded’ for 10 but race with a maximum of 8 for most races with 9 for long races (half are off watch and we have 6 good racing berths plus 3 more when we have finished. With 3 spinnakers plus a code Zero and a Vektron Heavy Weather Jib, she is safe and stable (easily meets Fastnet safety standards) and has been tweaked for performance for several seasons.

7th September –Rigger Paul (Love -Williams) has signed up for the team. He is a great navigator and good all round sailor with an Engineering background. He has sailed with Paul in Fastnets, Round Ireland, Sydney Hobart and Caribbean 600 races.

Programme

JOG is the Junior Offshore Group and the club organises races mainly starting from Cowes. It is a very sociable set up and there are often sponsored parties after the race, nothing flash but a good social scene and some seriously good racing sailors.

Aimed at faithful regular Wild Spirits and those wanting to learn to race here is our programme for JOG racing with Paul Jackson and Paul Love-Williams skippering.

Wild Spirit is a fast cruiser; we pick up some silverware most years but we are not an all-out racing yacht; for 2016 we finished 7th out of 66 in our Royal Ocean racing Club class for the UK season. We are ‘Coded’ for 10 but race with a maximum of 8 for most races with 9 for long races (half are off watch and we have 6 good racing berths plus 3 more when we have finished).

For 2017 we have a new Carbon Genoa and a new code Zero, we are going to run with 2 code Zeros and 2 spinnakers plus the Vektron Heavy Weather Jib which proved so effective in the 2016 Volvo Round Ireland Race when we beat sailing Logic and Irish Offshore sailing.

The Weymouth and Easter plus late September Cherbourg races are combined events with our JOG programme and places are on a first come basis at £40 each. We will however have a good meal out on these weekends and the food (not wine)will be paid for by the company. We do this so members of the RORC and Wild Spirit teams can meet; this is partly a development issue and we will be competing again in the 2018 Volvo Round Ireland Race.

Team Re-union weekend—subject to demand. We are hoping the JOG will put on an extra race in October which we would try and do and then have team meal out.

Cost for package of 10 races and 3 training weekends will be £1500 with £250 off for anyone signing up and paying £500 deposit by 1st February.

Stage payments are fine.

JOG team members also get half price on any Fastnet team race with a spare place plus half price ISAF courses and £100 off any 5 day or longer RYA course. (£50 on specials offers).

Risks–Something happens to Wild Spirit or the Skipper—we may be able to arrange a substitute yacht and we have several potential substitutes for skipper.

We will do our best to manage any risks but can’t give guarantees.

Policies etc–Wild Spirit is coded to MCA standards plus complies with RYA and RORC/ISAF standards and is correctly insured for all races, training etc.

As long as it is legal and we don’t have to join in we don’t mind what you believe in or what gender or race you are. If you have bits missing or other issues and we can cope with any resulting problems we can probably welcome you to the team, it is about what you can do.

We don’t drink and sail, we do have a few drinks after races but it isn’t compulsory.

Wild Spirit is Non Smoking, Non-Vaping and absolutely no illegal substances.

End of the small print—if you can’t trust the people you sail with you are on the wrong boat

Not part of package Round the Island Race Long Weekend 1st July- -Friday training–£495 with £100 off for Fastnet and JOG team members.
