ISAF Offshore Safety

2010 12 26 Sydney-Hobart Helsal 3Paul is a RYA instructor for the RYA/ISAF Offshore Safety course which is required for crew on serious offshore races like the Fastnet and Sydney Hobart.

With well over 95,000NM logged including over 25,000 in serious offshore races in waters ranging from the roaring 40s of the Southern Hemisphere to more than 60 degrees North he has gained a wealth of experience in keeping going and staying alive when the going gets tough.

ISAF courses are run with half a day theory then half a day practical on Wild Spirit or, on request on another racing Yacht. The second option is the best when training several members of the same team because all Yachts are different.

Photo is Helsal 3 during 2010 Sydney Hobart. Paul was helm and we were first Tasmanian yacht to finish. He skippered Helsal for 2013 race and helmed in 2015 plus 2016 when we won our Division two years running. He was also a helm on The Stick when it took line Honours in the 2011 Lord Howe Island race and took 3rd in Ocean class skippering a Farr 65 in the 2017 caribbean 600.

2017 courses will be a day before Fastnet qualifiers with free accom on board the night before. This allows an early start so you can go on to your Fastnet team yacht in time for the race.
